Colour boards for 2016

With the New Year in full swing, many have plans to renovate or build in 2016. One of the most important considerations during this process is the colours you use. Whether it’s to refresh one room or the whole home, colour boards can help inspire and collate a theme for your space. To help, we have brought together some colours we see trending into mood boards that you can print and place in each room to see how it fits.

Blush pinks, celadon greens and pale yellows are all coming back with the revival of retro style furniture. These soft colours are a modern and fresh approach to the traditional bright and brash stoplight colours that are typically associated with retro designs. Use this in the living room or bedroom to add a soft pop of colour that offer balance but also interest.

In this month’s edition we present our latest product and design installations, and we invite you to step into an Asian/fusion themed home, as designed by our featured staff member, Nyria King. And of course, we arm you with a deliciously hearty meal to impress your dinner guests.

How to Harness Queensland’s Best Asset in Your Home

How to make clashing colours work

Interior design is an art and for many, straying outside of the “guidelines” can seem like a big taboo! Colours for the home, for example, “should” be complimentary and not contrasting. But art isn’t all about following the rules. Break free with a clashing colour scheme that could actually liven up your space, creating a bold, beautiful statement. Want to try it for yourself? Let us help you:

How to make it work

With phrases like “red and green should not be seen” running through many new homeowners minds, it’s easy to avoid a riskier colour combo. But matching contrasting colours can actually be a powerful tool and look great – if done right. The important thing is to stick with colours that are equal in tonal strength (meaning warm and cool and varying degrees of each) rather than complementary colours. It is also important to avoid having too many clashing hues. Stick to a handful of different contrasting shades and allow the bold colours to speak for themselves.
