Parry & Williams was founded in 1959 and has become Brisbane’s most recommended upholsterer. Their hand-picked team of 15 craftsmen and women share 550 years of experience and are passionate about what they do.
Where did it all begin?
It was 1957 when Wal Parry began recovering furniture in his lounge room. He was joined two years later by Ray Williams and from there they started manufacturing and recovering furniture in a factory at Sandgate under the name Parry & Williams. After Wal sadly passed away from a heart attack in 1967, Ray was left working long, hard hours to meet demand. He kept the name Parry & Williams out of respect for Wal and the large part he played in the business.
Parry & Williams has remained in the family with Ray’s eldest son Steven beginning an apprenticeship and joining the business as a tradesman in 1971. In the years following, Ray’s daughter Diane also commenced work in the business in 1975 and Ray’s second son Ray (jnr) completed an apprenticeship and joined the business in 1977. After working in the business for 40 years, Ray (snr) retired from running the business. The Williams family has continued running the business to this day, including a third generation of WIlliams Master Furniture makers. Parry & Williams have also seen a number of apprentices come and go, building their own businesses and seeking advice and guidance from the Williams family
Today, the Brisbane based business attracts big clients such as Myer, David Jones, and Natuzzi Leather Lounges.

The craftsmen and women at Parry & Williams carefully and artfully revive old furniture. Although this has become particularly trendy in the past few years, this has been at the heart of the Parry & Williams business since its inception. The showroom has a large variety of fabrics you can choose from to reinvent your favourite chair, lounge or other item of furniture. The craftsman at Parry & Williams check internal faults and structure with care and attention to detail prior to applying the new fabric.
Impressive bed heads give a room an air of luxury and sophistication and are something many people dream of. Parry & Williams create custom bedheads allowing people to choose the fabric and features such as buttoning, piping, studding and luxury trims.
There is something special about sitting in a chair that has been carefully upholstered, drawing curtains that are just the fabric you wanted or laying back in a bed that has a custom made head.
Lifestyle dictates the fabric and design choices we make for rooms. Over the many years of operation Parry & Williams have created upholstery for many eras, tastes and lifestyles. From ‘out with the old and in with the new’, to ‘mix and match’, to ‘in with the old’, upholstery plays a huge role in interior design.
